Spirits are high in Emley Brass Band as the Yorkshire Areas get closer, especially with the success and joy that was had at the end of February. Competing at the NEMBBA Contest on 28th February at the Post Mill Centre in Derbyshire was an extra challenge that we were willing to take as we wanted the experience and feedback from playing the Areas test piece, ‘The Mermaid of Zennor’.
After a successful performance, we were delighted to be announced as winners of the Second Section. We also collect a trio of prizes for various best instrumentalists. Cameron Chapman received the ‘Best Cornet Player’. Scott Dawson took the award for ‘Best Euphonium Player’ and lastly, Mick Berry, Sara Chapman and Auxiliary Trianglist Deborah Howe, rounded off the successful day with the ‘Best Percussion Section’.
In the last couple of rehearsals in the run up to the Yorkshire Areas, the success of the win and happiness that we share with our fellow bandsmen and friends has made us all try even harder. So much effort has been put into every single rehearsal and all we can hope for is to perform at the best of our abilities at the weekend.
Another piece of fantastic news which we are happy to announce is that this day also marked the engagement of our very own musical director, Garry Hallas. and our Flugelhorn Player, Elizabeth Hartley.
