Our former Musical Director is Garry Hallas, he started at Emley in April 2003 and to date has masterminded a slow and steady process seeing us gradually move up the banding league tables, we are currently the highest ranked band the village of Emley has ever had.

Garry is a multi instrumentalist, playing high brass, percussion and piano. He is often in demand around the region as deputy player for other bands. He plays in other brass bands as well jazz groups, folk bands and orchestras. Garry plays Trumpet and runs his Brass Quintet, Dynamic, He teaches in several Yorkshire schools imparting his love of music and wide ranging knowledge.

As a conductor Garry is in demand more and more, he regularly conducts LB Brass a small highly skilled brass group from Halifax. He is also associate conductor of the Stannington band. We are very lucky to have him full time in our Bandroom, his passion for excellence and attention to detail keep our rehearsals moving along quickly. There’s always a cheerful atmosphere in the Emley Bandroom and a large part of this is how Garry goes about his job.
