On Sunday 26th June, Emley band undertook a booking for the ‘Make a Dream’ foundation. The concert was to form a segment of a party for a young man, Rufus. Rufus has a degenerative disease and every day is a struggle. We turned up not knowing what to expect, after all, how many 5 yr olds parties regularly have a brass band as entertainment.
We started our performance alongside Balloon modelling and Face Painting to a gathering of Rufus’s friends, the man of the moment arrived, was lifted from his wheel chair and sat on the floor, only feet from the band, as soon as he heard the music he was in constant motion, dancing away to any and every tune, proving music really can transcend some of life’s problems ????
Rufus is a big fan of brass music and classical tunes, we played a wide variety of music to entertain him and his family and friends. A selection of tunes from Brassed Off included Elizabeth Hartley giving a classy rendition of Concerto De Aranjuez. On Ilkley Moor, Floral Dance and Everybody Needs Somebody to Love all went down particularly well!
We wish Rufus all the best in his continued treatment and hope we help lift the spirits on the day ???? we also gave a him an Emley dressed teddy bear, tambourine and Emley CD!
